Microsoft Reportedly Made A Secret Minecraft AI That Plays For You
Microsoft has applied advanced AI to a program that plays Minecraft in response to natural language text prompts: By telling a character to dig or build, the character will do just that.
This technology allows you to issue Minecraft Natural Language commands, according to a Semafor report. So you can tell the game to build a fort, offer some examples of the features you want to see, and see how the game goes and build it. These commands use a natural language interpretation similar to CHATGPT. This AI model is said to be built in partnership with OpenAI, like the Prometheus model now used by Bing, although there is no direct link between the two projects.
Semafor reports that Microsoft “does not plan to include this feature in the public version of Minecraft anytime soon.” This is not surprising since past experiments with voice control in games have tended to fail – experiments were implemented as gimmicks before the technology was actually ready.
The most interesting possible application of the technology was pointed out by Kotaku: Natural language voice-activated gaming may very well be an option in the future. Despite significant advances in controls for people who can’t use a keyboard or mouse, such equipment can still be quite expensive.
