BMW And Toyota Plan To Release Joint Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars
Already in 2025, BMW and Toyota are going to start selling jointly developed hydrogen fuel cell models. This was told by the head of the sales department of the Bavarian auto giant Pieter Nota.
BMW unveiled the iX5 Hydrogen concept car powered by hydrogen fuel cells in autumn 2021. A company representative said that small-scale production of the first samples will begin as early as 2022. The company will launch mass production in 2025.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles differ from electric vehicles in their longer range. They can also be filled in just a few minutes. Peter Nota noted that this technology is especially relevant for large SUVs.
BMW cars will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, developed jointly with the Japanese company Toyota Motor. The companies have been collaborating since 2013 and have jointly developed sports cars including the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra.
