Samsara Tracking Label Unveiled: A Bluetooth-Based Sticker For Tracking Shipments In Transit

Samsara has introduced a Bluetooth-enabled electronic tracking label, allowing cargo owners to track their shipments in near real-time and quickly resolve any issues that arise.
Although this new technology resembles a standard shipping label, it houses a compact zinc battery and a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module. In an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, Samsara Vice President David Gal noted that this tag enables real-time tracking of cargo and, most importantly, is designed for single use.
The main differentiator and advantage of the Samsara Tracking Label device is its integration into the company’s existing ecosystem. Over the years, Samsara has built a network of millions of sensors and cameras worldwide. The new tag leverages this infrastructure: any Samsara device in transit detects the signal of the nearest tag and sends its precise coordinates to the system.
Previous devices, such as the Asset Tag, were significantly larger and more expensive, making their installation only economically feasible for very high-value shipments. Furthermore, older devices required return after delivery. The new Tracking Label is so inexpensive and compact that it can be applied even to single-use items of average value.

The labeling process is easily scalable depending on customer demand, saving time and money, although the manufacturer has not yet specified the solution’s pricing. Tracking mechanisms are implemented within the Samsara app or infrastructure, offering simple integration with customer information systems. The platform enables real-time tracking of delivery schedules, theft prevention, and the identification of delays before they become major problems.
