Developers from the independent Swedish studio Malformation Games announced the release date of their old-school horror game Ground Zero, in the spirit of classics Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, via GameSpot.
Ground Zero will be released on April 16, 2026, simultaneously for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X, and S. The announcement was accompanied by an intense gameplay trailer.
The story takes place in post-apocalyptic South Korea, where a meteorite strike has devastated the country. Two months later, elite operative So-Yeon and her partner travel to the ruined city of Busan to uncover the cause of the disaster. However, something far more terrifying awaits them in the misty ruins: mutated creatures and a mysterious infection.
Players will explore the ruined city—from temples to coastal areas—and survive a constant threat. Players will have access to firearms, melee attacks, and counterattacks, and effective kills will earn them points to upgrade their equipment.
They promise over 15 hours of gameplay, six story branches, 20 enemy types, 30 weapon types, over 20 unlockable alternate skins and difficulty settings. A demo is available on Steam.
