Microsoft Copilot Appeared On LG TVs “Without Asking” – It Can’t Be Removed

LG Electronics sparked widespread outrage among its owners after an automatic software update for its webOS-based smart TVs forcibly installed Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant app, which could not be removed using standard tools.

Users noticed a tile for Copilot appeared in their app list, even though they didn’t install the software themselves. Furthermore, it can be hidden, but there’s no way to uninstall the app.

This update is likely the result of some deal between Microsoft and LG. Moreover, earlier this year, both LG and Samsung announced their intention to integrate Copilot into TVs, although they didn’t indicate that the chatbot would be permanently installed.

Also, a Live Plus option was discovered in the menu. This setting tracks the content users consume to create personalized services, including advertising. However, this can be disabled.

Experts point out that the strategic alliance between LG and Microsoft is aimed at creating a competitive advantage at a time when Samsung, Sony, and other manufacturers are also actively implementing proprietary AI features into their devices. However, judging by the vocal reaction, this approach carries reputational risks.
