The Tesla Semi long-haul truck is getting ready for a facelift. According to preliminary information, its production will begin in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Chinese portal ITHome. They also published the first image of the truck.

According to company representatives, the updated vehicle will be more energy efficient, although the presentation slide still shows the same figure of 1.7 kWh per mile. The 800 km range for the top-of-the-line model also remains unchanged, as does the maximum capacity of the compatible charging station of 1.2 MW. The 800 kW powertrain will deliver 1,088 hp in conventional motoring units. The presentation also mentions the Tesla Semi’s increased payload capacity and the truck’s readiness for autonomous operation.

The classic rearview mirrors have been retained, but this is likely due to certification requirements for the American market. The exterior features noticeable updates, including new lighting in the style of the restyled Model 3, a different bumper, reduced side glass area, and a less sloping roofline than the previous Tesla Semi. This may negatively impact aerodynamics, but it will improve practicality by increasing the usable volume, which is typically fully utilized in commercial vehicles.

The Tesla Semi premiered back in 2017. After multiple delays, deliveries of the electric trucks began in December 2022. A year later, it was reported that only a few dozen production vehicles had been assembled at the Nevada plant. Judging by the lack of news, mass production has yet to reach full capacity.
