Bahamas Government Suspends SpaceX Rocket Landings

The Bahamas government has suspended SpaceX Falcon 9 landings in the country, Reuters reports. The Bahamas Department of Planning and Environment said no further landing permits would be issued until an environmental assessment had been completed and reviewed by all stakeholders.

According to sources, a possible reason for revising the agreement could be a recent emergency situation – during another test launch, SpaceX inadvertently destroyed the Starship ship, creating a fire show in the skies over the Bahamas. Although the incident is not directly related to Falcon 9, it could attract the attention of authorities to the company’s activities in the region. Landing the first stages of Falcon 9 on automatic sea platforms off the coast of the archipelago allowed SpaceX to expand the range of possible launch trajectories. The first such landing took place in February 2025, and since then the company has regularly used this area. During all this time, no incidents with the landing of stages or boosters have been recorded.

Earlier, in February 2025, after SpaceX’s first landing in the country, Bahamian authorities said they would approve 19 more projects in the country by 2025, subject to regulatory approval. SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
