The MacBook Neo: $599 Price Became A Real Shock For PC Market

The MacBook Neo hit the market at a price that’s at the lower end of forecasts that were made before the catastrophic rise in memory prices. And this is a major shock for the entire industry.
At least, that’s what the co-CEO of Asus put it. In an interview with PC Mag, he said that the release of the MacBook Neo at precisely $600 was a shock to the Windows PC industry.
“Apple’s pricing policy has always been high in the past, so their release of a very affordable product obviously came as a shock to the entire industry,” he said.
According to Xu, all PC market players, including Microsoft, Intel, and AMD, are taking the threat posed by the MacBook Neo seriously. “In fact, there’s a lot of discussion going on throughout the PC ecosystem about how to compete with this product,” he added.
However, Asus’ top manager didn’t miss the opportunity to go on the offensive. He stated that the MacBook Neo’s popularity could be limited by its only 8GB of non-expandable RAM.
Despite the Asus executive’s claims, various observers agree that the MacBook Neo’s 8GB of RAM isn’t a problem. The new model handles all the tasks it was designed for with flying colors.
“How much of an impact [the MacBook Neo] will have on the PC industry remains to be seen. But undoubtedly, the entire Windows PC ecosystem will release products that compete with Apple,” Xu said, adding that Apple’s new product may not find widespread interest among Windows PC users due to software differences.
