Tesla Created A Team To Get Rid Of Complaints About Driving Distance

The company set up a separate support team that rejected service requests from customers who were dissatisfied with the range of an electric vehicle on a single charge.

Tesla, an electric car maker, secretly created a separate support team in the summer of 2022 to turn down service requests from customers who are dissatisfied with the range of cars on a single charge. This was written by Reuters, citing informed sources.

At first, the team was honest about remotely diagnosing the electric vehicle and trying to convince customers that the claimed range is just a guess and that the batteries lose charge over time, which affects driving range. At the same time, if the diagnostics showed some other problems not related to the power reserve, management demanded that customers not be informed about this. After some time, the managers demanded that the remote diagnostics of the machines be stopped. Thousands of customers have been told their electric vehicles are fine without even checking them, the source said. Managers told employees that each canceled meeting saves Tesla about $1,000, Reuters sources say.

The sources believe that the company initially inflated the range data in its advertising and itself created a wave of complaints.
