SpaceX Releases Indestructible Starlink Terminal for $1999
SpaceX has announced a new Starlink antenna designed for use in harsh environments. The Performance antenna is also designed for use on the move, delivering 400 Mbps download speeds and will eventually reach gigabit speeds.
To demonstrate the endurance of the new generation Performance terminal, Starlink even showed a video of it being used on a floating SpaceX platform in the ocean, where reusable Falcon rockets land. Jets of flame and salt-saturated sea air do not pose a threat to them in terms of maintaining operability during the specified period. Strictly speaking, the rectangular aluminum body of the antenna and the electronic filling can withstand ambient temperatures from minus 40 to plus 60 degrees Celsius, work in conditions of high vibration, including fastening to vehicles moving at speeds of up to 270 km / h. In addition, in the vastness of the world’s oceans, the kit is able to maintain structural integrity for ten years of operation. Power consumption compared to its predecessor has decreased from 110 to 70 W, while power can be supplied from both DC and AC networks.
The Starlink Performance promises a 10-year “field-tested” lifespan, and also offers a three-year antenna warranty (as opposed to the standard Starlink antenna in the US, which only has a one-year warranty).
