Microsoft Sells Activision Cloud Gaming Rights To Ubisoft

Microsoft has decided to sell Ubisoft the rights to cloud streaming of Activision Blizzard games, writes The Verge. The company expects the move to convince the British regulator to approve the purchase of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 million.

Microsoft is restructuring a proposed deal with Activision Blizzard to transfer cloud gaming rights for current and new Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft. The transfer is intended to appease UK regulators who are concerned Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion deal will impact competition in cloud gaming. The restructuring of the deal has prompted a new investigation by UK regulators that could run until 18 October.

Competition and Markets Authority chief executive Sarah Cardell said the regulator would look into the new proposal, but cautioned that it was not a green light and that its goal of ensuring effective competition in cloud gaming had not changed.

If approved, the agreement will be the largest in the history of the gaming industry.
