Meta Will Introduce A New VR Headset In October

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the next Meta VR headset will arrive in October. Zuckerberg talked about it on Joe Rogan’s Spotify podcast. The device, codenamed Project Cambria, is likely to be launched during the company’s annual Connect event.

“There are some big features for the next device coming out in October,” Zuckerberg said when discussing virtual reality at the start of the podcast. He went on to describe the new social possibilities that eye and face tracking will make possible. “The ability to now have some sort of eye contact in virtual reality,” Zuckerberg said as part of the feature list. “Track your face to make your avatar look like this – it’s not just this silent thing, but if you’re smiling, frowning, pouting or whatever facial expression you have, you’ll turn it on in real time.”

As reported last month, a leaked code suggests the device may be called the Meta Quest Pro. Whatever the final name, the Cambria will sit alongside the cheaper Meta Quest, though Meta is reportedly already planning the next generation of both headsets. It differs from the still nascent line of meta-augmented reality glasses.
