US Army Tests Improved Microsoft Hololens

Microsoft will supply the US military with a trial batch of advanced military tactical glasses IVAS.

The new model IVAS version 1.2, built on the basis of the augmented reality headset Microsoft HoloLens, differs from the previous lightness, more compact body and improved distribution of hardware inside the device. Changes made to the design of the gadget are expected to increase the level of comfort when wearing it.

The Pentagon will receive a batch of 20 prototypes of the device until July 31, 2023. Then, at the end of August 2023, field tests will be carried out using IVAS 1.2. During these tests, two detachments of American fighters will evaluate the novelty for the reliability of the device, its ease of use in low light conditions, as well as the impact on the well-being and health of the soldier.

In May, it was reported that the US Army intends to launch the IVAS program by 2025. If the advanced IVAS 1.2 headset suits the military, then over the next ten years they intend to spend up to $ 21.9 billion on 121,000 devices, spare parts and support services. The cost of one headset is about $60,000.
