HTC Unveils New Vive XR Elite AR/VR Headset for $1,099
HTC has opened pre-orders for a new augmented and virtual reality headset – Vive XR Elite. The novelty does not require connection to a smartphone, computer or console. It is supposed to compete with devices like the Meta Quest series headsets and the rumored Apple device.
The XR Elite lives up to some of the key features of the Quest Pro, including support for 2K (1920 x 1920) resolution per eye, 90Hz refresh rate, and full battery life. However, at 625 grams (vs. 722 for the Quest Pro) and a more comfortable headband, the XR Elite does the job even better, delivering a lightweight wearable VR/AR experience. HTC has provided an option to remove the battery and place the lenses in a relatively compact carrying case.
HTC has prepared some special, rather important functions for users. For those who wear glasses, it is possible to adjust the optics, as well as “fit” it according to the distance between the eyes. Two batteries, which should last for 2 hours, are mounted in the rear module of the headset, and their “hot swap” is supported, a small built-in battery allows the model to work for 10 minutes, which is quite enough to change batteries. The device is charged via the USB Type-C port, the controllers are also recharged – they can work offline without recharging for about 10 hours.
Like the Quest Pro, the XR Elite comes with built-in hand tracking so you can easily and intuitively use gesture controls in games. And with support for full color imaging, you won’t feel isolated in the lonely void of VR.
Pricing starts at $1,099, which is cheaper than the $1,500 Meta competitor.
