Apple has updated its AirTag lost item keychain, equipping it with an upgraded second-generation Ultra Wideband chip for increased range, including when using the “Precise Find” feature. Another key benefit of the “new AirTag,” as Apple calls it, is an improved speaker, which the company claims is “50 percent louder,” which should also make it easier to find a lost accessory.
The second-generation AirTag now uses the same UWB chip as the iPhone 17 and Air. This improves the Precision Finding feature, which determines the precise distance and direction to a lost item. The company notes that the new chip helps locate items “up to 50% further away than before.”

The device also features a new Bluetooth module and speaker. The volume of the device’s audio signals has been increased by 50%. The list of AirTag compatible devices has also been expanded, including the Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and later models.
The new AirTag is now available to order on apple.com. The price remains the same as the previous generation: $29 for a single AirTag and $99 for a pack of four. Free personalization is available. The AirTag FineWoven keychain is available for $35 in orange, purple, blue, green, or black.
