Apple Creating A Device To Update Sealed iPhones
Apple is reportedly testing a new tablet-shaped device that you can place a sealed iPhone on, wake it up wirelessly, automatically download and install the latest version of iOS, and turn off the device.
Apple plans to develop a patented “tablet device” for its retail stores that will allow factory-packed iPhones to be updated with software before they are sold to customers.
Apparently, the device will allow you to turn on your iPhone wirelessly, update its software to the latest available version of iOS, and then turn it off again, all without breaking the packaging. By the end of the year, Apple plans to begin using this device to update software in its stores.
Apple intends to introduce the system in stores by the end of the year. This will avoid situations in which buyers of new smartphones must update iOS to the latest version the first time they turn it on.
