Dyson to launch $949 Zone Air Purifying Wireless Headphones in January
Earlier this year the Dyson company, famous for its vacuum cleaners, has introduced an unusual product for itself – the Dyson Zone wireless headphones.
These headphones are designed to solve two problems of modern big cities at once – a noisy environment and polluted air. Headphones are equipped not only with an active noise reduction system, but also with a built-in air purifier.
The Dyson Zone, as they’re called, cost $949. They will hit the market in March, the company said in a statement. China will get them first, in January, and then the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong will also have the opportunity to purchase the headpiece, the front of which resembles the mask of Hannibal Lecter.
The detachable front bar that sits above the wearer’s mouth and nose and gives the Dyson Zone a unique advantage serves the same purpose as a modest virus-fighting face mask: preventing the inhalation of unwanted airborne particles. Although Dyson has stated that its gadget, even with its filtering abilities, is not designed to protect against Covid-19.
The Dyson Zone works with compressors in each ear cup that suck air through two layers of filters before sending it to the nose and mouth. Dyson filters, which last a year, can capture particles as small as 0.1 microns, the company says. The other layer can also filter out odors such as construction and sewer smoke, or pollutant gases such as nitrogen dioxide.
