Apple is preparing to release AirPods wireless headphones with a built-in camera and artificial intelligence. The new product’s release is not expected until 2027 due to technical issues. The low-resolution sensors will scan the surroundings rather than take photos.

These statements come from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who is traditionally well-versed in Apple’s plans. According to him, AirPods wireless headphones with built-in cameras were originally supposed to launch this year, but Apple’s engineers decided to engage in extensive and extensive testing this spring, so they no longer have a chance of launching this year. Furthermore, supply chain issues and some software bugs, which will take time to resolve, have prevented the fall debut this year.

According to sources familiar with Apple’s current plans interviewed by Bloomberg, such headphones are expected to launch in 2027, although this isn’t 100% certain.

The source attempts to address concerns raised by some potential users about the headphones’ cameras being able to film everything around them without the owner’s consent with the following arguments: the cameras will be low-resolution and won’t be able to record video or take photos at all. Their purpose will be to scan the surrounding space and transmit information about it to related software. Apple, using the example of Meta and its smart glasses, has already learned that it’s best to avoid such privacy concerns.

The agency also previously reported that Apple is working on smart glasses and a pendant with built-in artificial intelligence.
