Google Preparing Pixel Tag Tracker

At the August 12th launch, Google may unveil, among other Pixel devices, the Pixel Tag Bluetooth tracker, a direct competitor to the Apple AirTag.
The tracker has the model number GA12506 and an oval case with a matte texture. This shape distinguishes it from its competitors, as most manufacturers opt for round or square designs. This design may provide better ergonomics when placed in narrow pockets or bag compartments.
The case lacks built-in mounts. Attaching it to a keychain or backpack requires separate accessories, likely including cases with loops or carabiners. This solution increases the size of the kit but provides flexibility in carrying style.
The gadget operates via the Find Hub network, a distributed search system in Android. Millions of smartphones anonymously transmit location data for the tags. The owner sees the coordinates of the lost item in the phone app. A built-in speaker helps locate the item within a radius of several meters by sound.
Support for UWB (ultra-wideband) technology has not been confirmed. If implemented, the tracker will be able to display the direction and distance to the item with centimeter accuracy. Without UWB, only basic GPS navigation with an accuracy of meters is available. The battery type is also unknown: replaceable batteries last for one to two years, while built-in batteries require regular charging.
The Google Pixel Tag will likely be unveiled at the Made by Google 2026 event on August 13, where the company will announce the Pixel 11 series smartphones, as well as the Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch and Pixel Buds Pro headphones.
