Vertu, known for its luxury phones embellished with precious stones and exotic leathers, has released its first foldable smartphone in a book-style form factor, according to Android Authority. The model is called the AlphaFold and, according to the company, is aimed at executives and affluent users. Unlike mainstream foldable devices that emphasize price-performance ratio, this one emphasizes materials, a personalized approach, and proprietary services.
The Vertu AlphaFold is built on the 2024 Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite platform. All configurations come with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB solid-state drive.
The device features an 8.05-inch foldable display with HDR support and a peak brightness of 5000 cd/m², as well as a 6.53-inch secondary display. The camera system includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel telephoto lens. The front camera has a resolution of 20 MP.

The smartphone weighs 264 grams and is equipped with a 6,500 mAh battery. It supports USB Type-C charging at up to 65W. The titanium and carbon fiber hinge is claimed to provide 650,000 folding cycles.
The smartphone features an exclusive AI assistant, dubbed “Hermes.” Among other things, this chatbot can summarize business reports and identify the causes of declining sales. Data processing will be entirely performed on the smartphone, and a dedicated A5 security chip will provide additional privacy protection.

Pricing starts at $6,880 for the calfskin version. The Italian alligator leather version costs $8,800, and the Himalaya Gold IV version with gold and diamond trim costs $46,800. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold retails for approximately $3,000. The AlphaFold went on sale worldwide on May 28.
