Another Pixel 6a’s Battery Caught Fire

A new report of a Google Pixel 6a catching fire has appeared on Reddit. The user reported that the phone burst into flames on a bedside table, less than half a meter from his head. The explosion was accompanied by a strong smell of burning and fire, which managed to ignite a sheet. The victim managed to pull the device out by the cable and throw it onto the tiled floor, avoiding more serious consequences.
It is noted that the user had previously installed an update as part of the Battery Performance Program, which Google has implemented for some devices as a mandatory patch. It limits the battery capacity and reduces charging speed to reduce the risk of overheating. Google also offers a free battery replacement with courier delivery or at service centers, but footymanageraddict clarified that this service is not available in his country. This is the fifth recorded case of a Pixel 6a catching fire in the last 12 months. Four previous incidents occurred before the update was released. However, according to Android Authority, this new case may indicate that software measures are not enough.
