Zipline Has Introduced The Platform 2: The Next-Generation Autonomous Delivery Drone
Zipline showed the platform 2 drones of the new generation, which are maximally adapted for parcel delivery.
It can carry loads of up to 3.6 kg within a radius of 16 kilometers at a height of up to 91 meters and has the ability to deliver a package to a place as small as a table or a threshold.
Zipline’s new P2 Zip can be autonomously charged at a charging station that looks something like a street light with an “arm” and a large disc attached to that “arm.”
P2 Zip can fly 10 miles in ten minutes, so the company delivers about seven times faster than any typical courier service.
First, the sender places the package or box in a small container. At the logistics base, it is loaded onto a P2 Zip eVTOL drone. The aircraft reaches the target without maintaining a height of at least 90 meters. A drone on a winch lowers a loaded container. It has a propeller that compensates for gusts of wind, so that the small drone lands exactly in the designated place. When the cargo is picked up, the container is lifted back. A large landing area is not required, a square meter is enough with a margin.
The Sweetgreen grocery chain has already announced its readiness to use these drones for point delivery. If ZipLine manages to bring the technology to the market, they will even move Amazon in the segment of unmanned shipment of goods.
