Xiaomi Flagship 12S Ultra Officially Presented With A Massive 1-inch Sensor
Most recently, Xiaomi introduced its new 12S series of smartphones, which includes compact 12S, 12S Pro and 12S Ultra models with a 1-inch IMX989 sensor. All three models feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and AMOLED displays with Leica’s proprietary camera setup.
Xiaomi 12S will come with a 6.28-inch AMOLED display at 120Hz with FHD+ resolution and 419 ppi, while 12S Pro and 12S Ultra will come with a slightly larger 6.73-inch AMOLED display at 1440 x resolution 3200, AdaptiveSync 1-120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support.
The entire 12S series has the Leica branding on the rear camera, but here the Xiaomi 12S Ultra outperforms its siblings thanks to its 1-inch wide-angle sensor (Sony IMX989). The 50-megapixel camera with a 1-inch sensor and a quad-pixel array allows even more light into the lens and is expected to produce better images in low light conditions with less noise and a wider dynamic range. The 12S Ultra also includes a HyperOIS feature that “uses the difference between two frames to bring the OIS to its original position, giving each frame the full effective range of stabilization.” This new feature confirms that Xiaomi is hard at work improving the camera on the 12S series.
The three phones will run MIUI 13 (based on Android 12) out of the box and go on sale in China before being released in other markets.
