Workers Began Returning To TSMC’s Taiwan Factories After Being Evacuated Due To A Powerful Parthquake

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co said all its employees were safe and those who had been evacuated had begun returning to factories after the worst earthquake in 25 years struck early Wednesday.

The island was subjected to a series of powerful earthquakes. According to estimates from various sources, their magnitude varied from 6.3 to 7.7 points. Up to 60 aftershocks with a magnitude of 4.1 or higher were also recorded. The tremors that caused the collapse of buildings were felt throughout the island of Taiwan. The earthquake was also felt in the Fujian and Jiangxi provinces of China, and train traffic was stopped in the south of mainland China. A tsunami threat was declared in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa, on the coasts of China and the Philippines. As a result of the natural disaster, 7 people were killed and 736 people were injured.

The world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer TSMC estimated losses for the company at $60 million.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for some southern islands and regions of the country, but then canceled them. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology also issued a tsunami warning after the Taiwan earthquake
