Valve Discontinued LCD Steam Deck

The most affordable version of the Steam Deck portable gaming console, equipped with an LCD display and priced at $399, is no longer available for purchase in the US. According to the description on Valve’s website, the manufacturer has no plans to sell this model in the future.

In 2022, when Steam Deck launched, only versions with LCD screens were available. However, Valve later began actively promoting OLED models with various improvements and changes, the most important of which was a screen upgrade. Although Valve considers the Steam Deck OLED to be the best portable PC, some users complain of eye strain after prolonged gaming on an OLED display.

Previously, a Valve engineer stated that the company is still interested in creating a successor to the Steam Deck. However, the company wants to achieve a significant performance boost in the future portable PC. Apparently, current technology is not yet sufficient for this.

Valve officials have not yet commented on this matter. Without their comment, one can only speculate about the reason for this decision. It’s possible that the recent rise in RAM and storage prices, driven by the demands of the AI market, is the reason Valve can no longer produce the Steam Deck with an LCD display at the current price.
