TikTok Tests Virtual Characters For Advertising

TikTok is going to add virtual advertising characters (avatars) to the platform based on artificial intelligence, which can compete with sponsored advertising in videos of ordinary people.

According to TikTok, virtual avatars will promote and sell products according to scripts and prompts from advertisers and sellers in the TikTok Shop. According to The Information, company employees tested virtual characters controlled by artificial intelligence and came to the conclusion that the technology is not yet ready for launch and attracts customers less than ordinary people.

Many TikTokers make money on the platform by collaborating with famous brands, especially after TikTok closed its creator support program. It is clear that the company is trying to make money, but it will have to try to bite off a piece of the user “pie” without angering people.
