Three Eve Smart Home Products Now Support the Standard

The first smart home appliances that support the Matter standard are now available. Eve Systems is adding Matter support to three products: the Eve Energy plug, the Eve Door & Window sensor, and the Eve Motion sensor. The free firmware enables HomeKit-exclusive hardware to communicate with any new controller, including Samsung’s SmartThings app and sincere support from Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

If you have any of the devices, you’ll have to go through the optional update process because once it’s completed, you won’t be able to go back to HomeKit alone. After the upgrade, you will still have all the HomeKit features on your devices, such as offline schedules, child lock, and advanced automation.

In order to upgrade, you need to join the Eve Early Access program here with your email address. You will also need a Thread Border Router, which is also an Apple Home Hub. This could be a HomePod mini or a compatible Apple TV 4K.

You’ll also need an iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 16.2.  This software is currently in beta testing but is expected to be released in December 2022.
