BYD’s Yangwang brand unveiled the U9 Xtreme, an electric hypercar that was tested at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg proving ground in September 2025, reaching a top speed of 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph), making it the fastest production car in history.

Even though the official world speed record for production cars is calculated as the average of two runs in opposite directions, and the U9 Extreme only achieved the maximum in one, this achievement is still considered significant – especially considering that the Bugatti record was also set in a one-way run.

This remarkable performance was made possible by the car’s advanced technical components: the hypercar’s four electric motors generate a combined output of nearly 3,000 horsepower. Furthermore, the model is built on one of the world’s first production platforms with a 1200-volt voltage, delivering increased performance, efficiency, and weight reduction thanks to a more compact and lightweight electrical system, including cables, inverters, and cooling elements.

Like the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, the YangWang U9 Extreme will be produced in a limited edition of no more than 30 units. Pricing has not yet been announced, but judging by the specifications, it will be in line with the price, and demand is likely to exceed supply.
