The 4th Version Of Zigbee Standard And Suzi Technology Were Presented
The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has released Zigbee 4.0, a new version of the wireless mesh networking standard that brings significant improvements for smart home and industrial applications. Key features include enhanced security, longer battery life, and, most importantly, the ability to install devices without a central hub.
Improvements to the Zigbee 4.0 standard include a simplified certification process, improved communication between devices, enhanced security, and increased device battery life with the ability to limit communication on a preset schedule.
The new Batch Commissioning feature will simplify large-scale installations by allowing multiple smart devices to be configured simultaneously. An electrician can install Zigbee-compatible light bulbs throughout a new home long before connecting them to the power grid, and once the hub is installed and running, they can be activated immediately, without having to add them individually to the network.
The new Zigbee smart home devices, branded as Suzi, will be able to use the European 800 MHz band and the North American 900 MHz band in addition to the standard 2.4 GHz band. According to the alliance, this will provide coverage for smart devices installed outside the home and over long distances, without the need for additional network extension equipment.
Zigbee 4.0 also fully supports all proprietary features added to the 802.15.4-based specification in recent years, such as Zigbee Smart Energy energy monitoring and Zigbee Green Power energy-saving devices, which use energy from sources such as light or heat.
Compatibility with Bluetooth Low Energy via Zigbee Direct simplifies initial device setup for end users. This feature allows devices to connect to the network without the need for specialized hubs, lowering the barrier to adoption in the home.
