Tesla Showed Second-Generation Optimus Humanoid Robots
Tesla has unveiled Optimus Gen 2, the next generation of its humanoid robot that will be able to take on various tasks to help people.
All Optimus systems are now powered by Tesla’s own sensors and actuators. The robot was lightened by 10 kilograms and taught to move 30% faster, bringing the kinematics of its legs closer to human ones. Optimus’ lower limbs now look ready for normal footwear.
In general, as follows from the annotations to the Tesla video on the pages of the social network X, in the second generation, the humanoid robot Optimus received actuators exclusively developed by the company’s specialists, whereas in early prototypes it was necessary to use ready-made industry solutions.
The company is especially proud of the completely new hands of this robot, which have 11 degrees of freedom and pressure sensitivity on all ten fingers. The latter property allows you to safely handle fragile objects – in the demo video, the robot carefully intercepted chicken eggs, holding them with two fingers at the same time and rotating them in space.
The second generation Optimus prototype learned to balance better and even dance. In the presented video, a pair of robots parodied Elon Musk’s meme dance.
The robots are expected to be used in Tesla’s electric car production before they go on sale.
Previously, Elon Musk said that in the future, robots could be used in homes, cooking dinners, mowing the lawn, caring for the elderly, and even becoming people’s “buddies” or sexual partners.
