SpaceX Showed The 1st Video Call Using A Regular Smartphone Via The Starlink Satellite
SpaceX showed a video with the first video call between ordinary smartphones directly through the new Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell (DTC) technology. During the organization of the video communication channel, the 4G/LTE range provided by the T-Mobile US provider was used.
According to SpaceX Senior Director of Satellite Engineering Ben Longmier, the company began testing the video calling feature after it last week increased the number of cellular-enabled devices (Direct to Cell) in orbit from 6 to 38. Thanks to this speed connections using unmodified Android smartphones can reach 17 Mbit/s.
SpaceX plans to launch satellite cellular service Starlink before the end of this year in the United States for T-Mobile customers, allowing them to text, make calls and connect to the Internet in remote regions where traditional cell towers do not provide coverage.
