Sony Releases New Metaverse Product “Mocopi”

Sony has released a new product, Mocopi.  This is a set of six traffic tracking lanes.

Mocopi is a play on the term “mocop” (motion capture). Sony explained that it uses six color motion sensors to track body movements. In a way, this technology has a lot in common with filming. We know they use motion capture devices and someone needs to record the data they collect. Thanks to Sony’s unique algorithm, “Mocopi” tracks the movement of the body using multiple sensors.

Sensor, for example, can be used to create fairly realistic animated avatars in numerous metaverse-related apps on Sony Android smartphones as well as iPhones. The kit will add to the list of Sony solutions designed for augmented and virtual reality systems. It will go on sale in Japan in January for about $360.

At the same time, Sony released an instructional video. In it, Sony explains how the sensors and the app work. Just tie the sensors to your body and calibrate them. Then your avatar will copy your movement. While the video shows how funny it is to see your avatar dancing, there are some issues with motion capture, such as foot shaking and slipping.

Sony is now working hard to expand its gaming empire beyond the console ecosystem by adding new peripherals for PC and mobile gaming.
