Russia Decided To Withdraw From The ISS Project After 2024

Russia has decided to leave the International Space Station (ISS) project after 2024, said Yury Borisov, head of the Roscosmos state corporation. Nevertheless, all obligations to partners will be fulfilled, he noted.

NASA said it had not received any notification of Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS project.  “We literally just saw it too.  We haven’t received anything official,” Robin Gates, director of NASA’s ISS program, told reporters.

Washington said that the news about Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS project came as a surprise to them. State Department spokesman Ned Price noted that this development is regrettable. “As I understand it, this public announcement came as a surprise to us,” he said.

Even as Deputy Prime Minister in April 2022, Yuri Borisov stated that Russia intends to withdraw from participation in the ISS project by 2025. At that time, Roskosmos replied that Russia would not make a decision to continue operating the space station not now, but after 2024.
