Peloton May Open Up Its Training Content To Competing Bikes And Treadmills
CEO Barry McCarthy is considering a plan that would allow Peloton app subscribers to potentially view workouts on third-party machines. McCarthy told that Peloton has been working on redesigning the bike “for a while” and, to top it off, said he hopes the long-awaited Peloton rower can debut sometime this holiday season. He also confirmed that the company has not completely abandoned Tread Plus.
The move is part of Peloton’s ongoing restructuring plan, which aims to reduce the company’s costs and improve cash flow. On Friday, Peloton announced it was cutting more than 500 jobs related to last-mile delivery and product distribution. The company also noted that it is raising the price of its Bike Plus and Tread bikes when it closes outlets in 2023.
Since taking office in February, McCarthy hasn’t shied away from sharing new ideas on how to improve Peloton’s faltering financial fortunes. Money saved from Friday’s cost-cutting measures will presumably be funneled back into Peloton’s research and development and marketing efforts.
