Mitsubishi Robot Sets A New Speed Record For Solving A Rubik’s Cube
The robot, developed by the Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric, has set a new world record for the speed of solving the famous puzzle – the Rubik’s cube. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the robot solved the puzzle in just 0.305 seconds, beating the previous record by 0.075 seconds.
Last June, at a competition in California, Korean-American Max Park solved a cube in 3.13 seconds. And Mitsubishi Electric’s new robot completed this task in just 0.305 seconds – about the time it takes a person to blink. Thus, in a fraction of a second, the robot performed an operation that takes the most trained people several seconds.
According to the developers, this result was achieved through the use of compact and powerful servos. They allow the robot to rotate the faces of the cube 90 degrees in just 0.009 seconds. However, the physical properties of the cube itself limit further improvement of this indicator, since at high speeds the elements of the cube get stuck and break.
According to the company’s senior manager Yuji Yoshimura, the main goal was to demonstrate Mitsubishi’s technological capabilities by creating high-speed, high-precision electric motors used in many of the company’s products.
