Huawei and XPeng Unveil Giant 87-Inch Head-Up Display for Cars
Chinese carmaker Xpeng has announced a new head-up display (HUD) system developed jointly with Huawei. The system, according to Xpeng, is the world’s first HUD solution to integrate AI-powered features.
The AR-HUD head-up display that Huawei and XPeng developed together will be impressive in size. The driver will feel like he is seeing a transparent 87-inch display with an advanced color gamut, 12,000 nits brightness, 1800:1 contrast ratio, and very advanced augmented reality technology. Navigation prompts will clearly guide the driver to the right lane on the road, display road signs recognized by on-board cameras and read from digital maps, as well as other information necessary on the road. The large virtual display will also be more convenient to prompt the car’s trajectory in conditions of limited visibility, when the driver’s eyes will have difficulty recognizing markings or approaching obstacles.
The display system also offers advanced safety features such as automatic detection of the position of the vehicle in front and lane boundaries in low visibility conditions. In addition, the system provides warnings and recommendations based on speed and road conditions when cornering.
According to information provided by Xpeng, the AR-HUD system will be first applied in the new G7 SUV.
