Google has begun rolling out a major update to its voice search interface on Android. After years of using the four-dot design, users will finally get a modern and customizable experience.

Voice search can be launched from a widget on the home screen (including Pixel Launcher) or from any Google search bar within the app. Google Search processes your query, opening the standard results page, and speaks the answer aloud. The four-dot wave interface has been around for several years.

The redesign begins with a centered, gradient “G,” flanked by a back button and a three-dot menu for accessing voice settings. There, you can select languages, turn results on or off, and choose a voice: Cosmo, Neso, Terra, or Cassini. The dark theme has also been updated.

The new interface is currently available to a limited number of users, as the rollout is gradual. The changes were first seen on Android in the stable version 17.1 of the app, as well as in the beta version 17.2. The current update only affects voice input and music search.
