Google has unveiled the Pixel Buds 2a, a wireless earbud that replaces the original Pixel Buds A-series model released back in 2021. The new product has received a slew of updates, some of which put it on par with the higher-end Pixel Buds Pro 2.

The key innovation was the introduction of active noise cancellation with Silent Seal 1.5 technology, which was first implemented in the budget A series. There is also a transparency mode for perceiving surrounding sounds. The sound quality is provided by 11-mm dynamic drivers with support for spatial stereo sound and a 5-band equalizer.

The earbuds are equipped with a new Tensor A1 processor, which provides integration with Google Gemini artificial intelligence. Users will be able to use voice commands to send emails, get directions, and perform other tasks. Touch control allows you to control playback, switch tracks, change noise cancellation modes, and activate Gemini.

The earbuds are protected against water and dust according to the IP54 standard, and the charging case is certified according to the IPX4 standard.

The Pixel Buds 2a last up to 7 hours with ANC on and up to 10 hours without it. With the charging case, this figure increases to 20 hours with ANC on and up to 27 hours without it. The case has an IPX4 protection rating, does not support wireless charging, but is equipped with a speaker that can be heard when searching for the device via Find My Device. Notably, the battery in the case is replaceable: just remove the bottom cover (the screws are hidden in the grooves for the earbuds) and take out the battery. Pixel Buds 2a are available in Iris and Walnut colors. They are already available for pre-order at $ 129 / £ 129 / € 149. The package includes four pairs of ear pads. Official deliveries will begin no earlier than October.
