Former Rockstar Animator Explains Why GTA VI Will Be Released On PC Later Than On Consoles

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles only in 2025. A PC version is expected to arrive, but that may not happen until a few years after launch. This discovery prompted PC Gamer to publish an article entitled “Rockstar Can’t Explain Why GTA 6 PC Version Won’t Release Along with Console Version.” Now, a former GTA animator explains why the PC ports aren’t being released at the same time as the console versions.
According to Mike York, who worked at Rockstar New England from 2012 to 2017 and helped create GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar prioritizes “what sells.”
Most often, especially in the past, these were PlayStation consoles, and therefore, at the launch of GTA V in 2013, Rockstar focused its efforts on the PS3 version (the port for Xbox 360 was made in parallel).
According to York, the main reason for the delay of PC versions of Rockstar games is the difficulty of their development against the backdrop of a wide range of potential hardware configurations and the resulting huge amount of testing.
York stressed that Rockstar does not have enough resources and employees to develop console and computer versions in parallel, so the studio is forced to give priority to what will sell better
