DJI has unveiled and is now shipping its new Osmo Action 6 action camera, which features several radical changes.

The main innovation is a camera with a variable aperture—it ranges from f/2.0 to f/4.0. This is a significant improvement over previous generations, which had a fixed aperture of f/2.8.

The Osmo Action 6 uses a new 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, which is larger than the 1/1.3-inch sensor in the Action 5 Pro and has a square shape similar to the Apple iPhone 17 front camera sensor, allowing you to capture landscape photos and videos without having to rotate the phone. This allows the Osmo Action 6 to offer similar shooting flexibility. However, the benefits of using this sensor are especially pronounced in post-processing, making it easier to crop and reframe videos in various aspect ratios, including vertical format for sharing on social media.

The camera also features a variable aperture with a range of f/2.0 to f/4.0 and two OLED screens—a 1.46-inch front screen (342 x 342 pixels) and a 2.5-inch rear screen (400 x 712 pixels)—supporting brightness up to 800 cd/m². The rear screen has a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m².

The camera has a 1950 mAh battery, rated for 240 minutes of operation when shooting in 1080p@24fps.

The Osmo Action 6 supports video recording at up to 4K resolution, 120 fps, and a 4:3 aspect ratio. By dropping the resolution to 1080p, slow-motion recording increases to 240 fps. This can be increased to 960 fps using interpolation to create additional intermediate frames.

The new camera’s built-in memory has been increased to 50 GB. Storage capacity can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 1 TB.

DJI is asking €380 for the new product. For €480, you can purchase a kit with two extra batteries, an extra mount, the Osmo Multifunctional Battery Case 3, and a selfie stick.
