Apple Will Move iPhone To USB Type-C Charging Port In 2023
To comply with EU law, Apple will need to transition iPhones to a USB-C charger, which is planned to be done next year.
It is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the head of the marketing department of the company Greg Joswiak, Bloomberg News.
Apple and EU lawmakers have a “little disagreement” over charger regulation.
USB-C and Lightning are the two most popular connectors in the world, and over a billion people use some kind of Lightning cable, he says. Apple thinks it struck a balance by using cables that can be detached from the power supply. It can have Lightning on one side, and any type of connector that is most convenient for the user, such as USB-C or USB-A, on the other.
According to the new law, by the end of 2024, USB-C must be used in all smartphones sold in the European Union. Apple expected to bring USB-C to iPhone 15.
