Along with the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the basic iPhone 17, Apple unveiled the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max at today’s presentation. The new product has a radically updated design, as well as a new powerful hardware platform.

The devices use a steam (evaporative) chamber for efficient cooling, which allows for increased productivity while maintaining a comfortable case temperature even under prolonged load.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max screen is protected by a new generation Ceramic Shield, which is 4 times more scratch-resistant. The peak brightness of the new smartphones’ screens reaches 3000 nits. Screen diagonals: 6.3 inches for Pro and 6.9 inches for Pro Max. The new A19 Pro processor is responsible for the performance of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. In general tests, it is 40% more powerful than the previous generation.

Unlike the Air, the new iPhone Pros feature what Apple says are the largest batteries of any iPhone, delivering the best battery life ever. The company claims up to 39 hours of video playback on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, up from 33 hours on the 16 Pro Max. But there’s a caveat: That kind of battery life is only available to those who buy the eSIM-only version of the phone, which is sold in the U.S.

The main camera now consists of three 48 MP modules: wide-angle, ultra-wide and a new telephoto lens with 8x optical zoom. The 18 MP Centre Stage front camera supports auto-framing.

The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199, both with 256GB of storage as the base model. That’s a small price increase for the iPhone 17 Pro, but it’s in line with the 16 Pro with 256GB. Also note that the Pro Max is now available in a 2TB version for the first time, which will set you back a whopping $1,999.
