Apple to Release Ultra-Thin iPhone 17 Slim Smartphone Next Year
Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17 Slim, which claims to be the world’s thinnest smartphone. The ultra-thin device is expected to be the highlight of the iPhone 17 lineup when it debuts next year.
The key feature of the iPhone 17 Slim should be its minimal thickness. It is reported that the prototypes have a thickness of 5 to 6 mm. The thinnest Apple smartphone of all time, the iPhone 6, is 6.9 mm thick, while the iPhone 6 Plus was 7.1 mm thick. The thinnest Apple devices in general were the iPad Pro, presented earlier this year: the 11-inch tablet is only 5.4 mm thick, while the 13-inch version is only 5.1 mm. According to sources, in an effort to make the smartphone as thin as possible, Apple engineers faced a number of challenges. In particular, there were difficulties with the placement of the battery and thermal insulation materials in the device’s body. Due to the ultra-thin design, they had to agree to install one speaker instead of two in current iPhone models. The iPhone 17 Slim will also have one camera on the back panel, located on a “large central protrusion.”
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to receive only one main camera. This decision brings it closer to the more affordable iPhone SE, which seems strange for a model that is positioned as a stylish and image-oriented smartphone.
Another controversial detail is Apple’s own 5G modem. It does not support the mmWave range, which limits the data transfer speed. This may be a disappointment for those who count on fast Internet in fifth-generation networks.
