Amazon Refuses To Test The Delivery Robot Scout
Major online retailer Amazon.com Inc will stop testing its automated delivery robot Amazon Scout, a company spokesman said after the issuer realized the program did not fully meet the needs of its customers.
“During our Scout limited field test, we worked to create a unique delivery experience, but learned through feedback that there were aspects of the program that weren’t meeting customers’ needs. As a result, we are ending our field tests and reorienting the program. We are working with employees during this transition, matching them to open roles that best fit their experience and skills.”
The company is currently winding down or “refocusing” the program and will work with the hired employees to provide them with new jobs, Amazon spokeswoman Alice Carroll said, adding that she is not abandoning the project entirely.
Amazon began testing the all-electric Scout, which is the size of a small cooler and travels on sidewalks at walking speed in Washington State in 2019, and has since expanded testing to Southern California, Georgia, and Tennessee.
