Alibaba’s Quark smart glasses, previously announced this summer, are now available for purchase in China. The first model available is the S1, featuring translucent micro-OLED displays. The device will soon be available outside of China, including through the international platform AliExpress.
In addition to the higher-end Quark S1 with integrated micro-OLED displays, buyers will later be offered the Quark G1, which dispenses with these displays but costs approximately half as much. Both devices use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 platform, and it has previously been reported that they will use a real-time operating system (RTOS).
Alibaba is attempting to address the battery life issue by offering replaceable batteries in the Quark smart glasses, which typically provide up to 24 hours of battery life. The glasses are equipped with cameras and can recognize objects, and voice interaction with the user is handled through a bone conduction speaker system. Predictably, Alibaba’s proprietary services, such as Alipay, Taobao, and Fliggy, are supported at the software level. Support for the Cloud Music and QQ Music services, respectively, has been implemented in partnership with NetEase and Tencent.
The more advanced S1 version is now available for purchase in China for $537. The two new smartglasses, the S1 and G1, expand the selection of smartglasses in China, offering users devices with different features and price points.
