The First-Ever Party-Based RPG
The original Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, released in 1981 on the Apple II and becoming one of the first computer RPGs in the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons, unexpectedly appeared in early access on Steam and GOG with a full-fledged 3D remake.
At its Early Access launch, the remake of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord offers the entire base game to play through. Future updates will bring mouse support , new object and environment textures, sound elements, character animations, and bug fixes.
In the story, players will have to form a team of adventurers, go down into the dungeon under Trebor Castle, fight dangerous enemies there, avoid hidden traps, and ultimately overtake the evil Archmage Verdna, who has stolen a magic amulet.
The updated Wizardry was created based on the original code for the Apple II. Enemy difficulty was left untouched, but convenience-enhancing features were added: squad management, navigation, spellcasting, and combat were “significantly improved.”
