Spotify Introduces Technology To Turn Radio Programs Into Podcasts
Spotify is introducing a new Broadcast-to-Podcast technology that will give broadcasters the ability to turn their existing audio content into podcasts.
In 2021, the company acquired Whooshkaa for its podcast streaming technology, which is now integrated into Megafon. It helps radio publishers to re-distribute and re-monetize content with an automated and simple platform. It is available to all Megaphone publishers worldwide and means broadcast publishers can reach new audiences, unlock new monetization opportunities, and give dedicated fans greater access to their content anytime, anywhere, on any device.
Spotify suggests that their new product allows them to better reach Gen Z audiences who prefer to get their news through digital channels such as podcasts. Podcast advertising spending is projected to reach nearly $2.2 billion in 2023. Spotify’s ultimate goal is to have access to more audio programming without the need for costly exclusive deals with podcast studios and individual podcasters.
