Vivo Releases Y500 Smartphone — With 8200 mAh Battery and $200

Vivo has officially unveiled the Y500 smartphone, which continues the trend of Chinese mid-range phones with impressive battery capacity: the new device has an 8200 mAh battery. According to the company, such large batteries have never been used in their smartphones before.

The smartphone has a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of FHD+ (2392 × 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. At the top of the display is a hole for an 8-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.0. The display supports HDR10+ technology and has an aspect ratio of 20:9. It also has a fingerprint scanner built into it. On the back panel is a main 50-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Vivo Y500 is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor with Mali-G615 MC2 GPU.

The 8200mAh semi-solid-state battery with an ultra-high energy density of 847Wh/L supports 90W fast charging and reverse wired charging. The battery provides up to 16.7 hours of continuous video playback at -20°C, 13 hours of continuous streaming at 35°C, and 22 hours of outdoor battery life at 40°C.

The Vivo Y500 is available in four colors. The 8GB/128GB version starts at CNY 1,399 ($196), while the top-end 12GB/512GB version starts at CNY 1,999 ($280). Sales in China are scheduled to begin on September 5. It is not yet known whether the Y500 will be available globally.
