The World’s Largest 3D Printer Was Unveiled in USA
The University of Maine in the US has unveiled the world’s largest polymer 3D printer, called Factory of the Future 1.0 (FoF 1.0). It is capable of printing objects measuring over 29 m in length, almost 10 m in width and 5.5 m in height
According to the developers, Fabrica Futuri 1.0 (FoF 1.0) can print objects up to 29 meters in length and can solve not only the problem of the shortage of affordable housing, but also be used to print bridges, boats and wind turbine parts. Its productivity reaches 500 kg of material per hour, and the materials used are resistant to environmental influences
However, an expert in the field of additive technologies (a method of creating three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer), Dr. Eujin Pei, believes that for now such 3D printers are more suitable for manufacturing individual elements of buildings and structures, rather than for printing entire houses.
The AP suggests that the printer “could one day create entire neighborhoods.” Specifications indicate that it will be able to print a modest one-story building in about 80 hours.
