The Legendary Shooter Doom Turns 30
On December 10, the iconic Doom turned 30 years old. On this occasion, John Romero, one of the creators of the shooter, as promised, released the Sigil 2 add-on – an unofficial sixth episode, which includes seven new levels.
You can download the free DLC on John Romero’s official website. The developer has released a small batch of physical copies of Sigil 2 with unique bonuses. The process of packaging the collector’s editions was filmed on video, which can be viewed on Romero’s microblog.
The main merit of Doom, of course, is not only that thanks to this game we learned who the cacodemons are and how to use the BFG. This game truly became the catalyst for the popularization of first-person shooters. This was perhaps primarily a result of the freemium distribution model. It’s also important to note that Doom contributed to popularizing the concept of multiplayer shooters.
John Romero and John Carmack will hold a joint broadcast dedicated to the anniversary of the game Doom and maybe we will find out what awaits us in the future.
